Research Presentations:

Jonathan Hernandez, M.S. student, gave an excellent presentation on March 9, 2012 at the Fifth Annual Student Research Symposium at SDSU on a portion of his master's thesis research. Jonathan's talk was entitled: "Roles for MANF in Cell Proliferation".

Ned Uncanin, undergraduate student, also gave an excellent presentation on March 9, 2012 at the Fifth Annual Student Research Symposium at SDSU. Ned's talk was entitled: "Characterizing Protective Aspects of the Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Response in Cardiac Progenitor Cells". Kudos to Ned for being selected by the judges for one of the President's Awards, which went to only 10 students out of the more than 500 that participated.

Ned Uncanin gave a presentation at The 26th Annual CSU (statewide) Student Research Symposium 2012 on May 2, 2012 at CSU Long Beach. Ned did an amazing job at the presentation, which was well received by all. The lab website was updated.

Doctoral Dissertation Defense:

John Vekich presented an excellent defense of his doctoral dissertation on May 7, 2012. His presentation, which was entitled: "The Roles of Protein Disulfide-Isomerase Associated 6 and Alpha-B Crystallin in Chaperone-Mediated Cardioprotection", was well delivered and John fielded many questions well. Congratulations, Dr. Vekich!!!

Shirin Doroudgar presented an outstanding defense of her doctoral dissertation on May 7, 2012. Her presentation, which was entitled: "Discovery and Application of Stress Response Proteins for Heart Disease", was well received and elicited enthusiastic comments and questions from the packed house in the BioScience Center Gold Auditorium. Congratulations, Dr. Doroudgar!!!

Commencement 2012:

Shirin Doroudgar was awarded her doctoral degree in Biology from San Diego State University and the University of California San Diego at the SDSU College of Sciences Commencement on May 18, 2012.
