DR. CHRIS GLEMBOTSKI’S LAB

DEPT OF BIOLOGY

The mission of our lab is to continue exemplary research in the field of cardiovascular molecular biology, and discover new genes and their roles in protecting the heart from ischemic injury.

Dr. Glembotski received his B.S. in Biochemistry from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UCLA. Following a post-doctoral position in Molecular Physiology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, he joined the faculty at University of Pennsylvania (Department of Pharmacology).

He moved to SDSU in 1986 to become Professor of Biology, and later became the Director of the SDSU Heart Institute, the founding Director of the SDSU Genomics Center. He is also currently the Associate Dean of Graduate Affairs. The focus of his studies has been integrating molecular biology, biochemistry, and physiology in the cardiovascular context, working on signaling pathways that protect the heart. The two main projects of the lab are:

aB-Crystallin Regulates Mitochondrial Integrity in the Heart

ATF6 and the Unfolded Protein Response
